  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 6 cups sliced apples
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 egg for egg wash

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Add cold water, a tablespoon at a time, until dough forms.
  5. Divide and roll out dough into two circles.
  6. Place one circle in a pie dish and fill with apples.
  7. Sprinkle cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch over apples.
  8. Cover with the second dough circle and seal edges.
  9. Make slits in the top crust for steam to escape.
  10. Brush with egg wash before baking.
  11. Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then reduce to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 35-45 minutes.
