Baked German Chocolate Swirl

An indulgent take on the classic German chocolate cake, this baked treat features a rich chocolate flavor with a delightful swirl of coconut and pecan topping.

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, combine the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. In a small bowl, mix the coconut and pecans together.
  6. Pour half of the batter into the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle half of the coconut-pecan mixture over it.
  7. Pour the remaining batter over the coconut-pecan layer, then top with the remaining coconut-pecan mixture.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let cool before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can add a layer of chocolate ganache on top.
  • Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for added indulgence.
