Make-Ahead Sausage Gruyere Strata

A delicious and easy-to-make strata that combines sausage and Gruyere for a comforting dish.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound sausage links
  • 8 slices day-old bread, cubed
  • 2 cups Gruyere cheese, shredded
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a skillet, cook the sausage until browned, then slice.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, mustard, salt, pepper, garlic and onion powder.
  4. Layer half the bread, sausage, and cheese in a greased baking dish.
  5. Pour half the egg mixture over the layers, repeat with remaining ingredients.
  6. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  7. Bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes until golden brown and set.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian option, omit sausage and add more vegetables.
  • Feel free to use different types of cheese according to your preference.
