Monte Cristo Breakfast Casserole Recipe

Enjoy a delightful twist on the classic Monte Cristo with this simple breakfast casserole recipe featuring turkey bacon.

  • 8 slices whole grain bread
  • 6 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
  • 1 cup diced turkey bacon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Cut the bread into cubes and place half of it in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  4. Sprinkle half of the cheese and turkey bacon over the bread cubes.
  5. Add the remaining bread cubes, then the rest of the cheese and turkey bacon on top.
  6. Pour the egg mixture over the bread and let it soak for 20-30 minutes.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown and firm.
  8. Let it cool slightly before serving with maple syrup.

Notes

  • For a sweeter touch, add powdered sugar to the top before serving.
  • Feel free to add your favorite vegetables for an extra twist.
