Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, spices, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with buttermilk.
  6. Divide the batter between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  7. Let the cakes cool completely before frosting.
  8. For the eggnog buttercream, beat together butter, powdered sugar, eggnog, and nutmeg until smooth.
  9. Frost the cooled cakes with eggnog buttercream.
